By the end of this course, you will be able to:

  • Relay an understanding of sound waves and how they behave in tissue.

  • Demonstrate the basic operation of an ultrasound machine; describe different ultrasound artifacts.

POCUS Essentials

POCUS Essentials is designed to educate healthcare providers on the principles of ultrasound exams commonly performed in Emergency, Family, and Internal Medicine specialties. ​

The course includes comprehensive training modules that teach hands-on scanning techniques and protocols required to accurately visualize and identify normal from pathological anatomy on ultrasound. POCUS Essentials bundle covers: Ultrasound Basics, Liver, Abdominal Great Vessels, Spleen, Biliary System, Renal System, Lung, Cardiac, Male Pelvis, DVT, and FAST.

By the end of this course, you will be able to:

  • Identify normal and pathological anatomy of the spleen, liver, abdominal aorta, gallbladder/bile ducts, lungs, heart, male pelvis, kidneys, pouches visualized on a FAST exam, and peripheral veins.

  • Interpret a routine POCUS ultrasound scan of the spleen, liver, aorta, inferior vena cava, gallbladder/bile ducts, lungs, heart, male pelvis, kidneys, FAST exam, and deep veins of the lower extremity.

  • Distinguish diagnostic images of the spleen, liver, abdominal aorta, inferior vena cava, gallbladder/bile ducts, lung, heart, male pelvis, kidneys, pouches visualized on a FAST exam, and the deep venous system.

By the end of this course, you will be able to:

  • Identify normal and pathological anatomy of the female pelvis as well as anatomy for major biometry measurements.

  • Identify a normal intrauterine gestation, an extrauterine gestation, and signs of early pregnancy failure.

  • Interpret a routine POCUS ultrasound scan of the female pelvis and a 1st trimester OB.

  • Distinguish diagnostic images of the uterus and 1st trimester gestation.

  • Assess amniotic fluid volumes.
